Duro-Last Firestone TPO Standing Seam Metal and PVC

So you need a new roof and you don't know what to do. At a time in history when roofing options are as bountiful and colorful as an Ipod nano what are you to do?

You can choose Standing Seam Metal. Firestone is an old and trusted metal roofing provider. They have the " Red Shield" warranty that covers the roof for 20 years. I love metal because it can easily last over 50 years in most states and it is very environmentally friendly. If you insulate it correctly it can create a thermal lock between indoor and outdoor heat exchange. It can also be totally recycled at the end of it's life cycle.  Metal can come in just about any color you want and it looks very rich. In recent years metal has also become very close with the solar industry so it can easily have a solar PV array attached to many systems.

TPO and EPDM are also options. You can get them in Black or white from most manufacturers.  They range in thickness from 40mil to 100mil and can come with a  wide range of warranty. For the most part these are the cheapest types of roofing you can put on and can be good for a building at the end of it's life cycle or for someone that wants a quick fix before selling a building. The white options can boast energy savings although lower than most metals and white PVC's.

Duro-Last PVC is a great all around roofing option. It comes with a standard 15 years warranty or optional 20 year warranty. It can be easily recycled and can pair easily with a solar installation. It also boasts the highest energy star rating in roofing options for savings and reflectivity.

I was recently at a trade show that had many roofing options advertised. I saw spray foam roofs, Firestone Metal roofs, Tremco and Duro-Last PVC roofs and too many name brand knockoffs to list. In a time when roofing options abound and the construction industry is still lagging you really need to research all of your options.  The federal government has a roofing calculator that shows energy savings with different roofing options based on location. Energy Star also lists efficient roofing options and for profit buildings can often qualify for tax rebates and grants from electric providers if savings guidelines are met. Spend your time figuring out the best option before you sign a bid and you will be happy you invested the extra time upfront. Because it will save you money in the end.

Google+ and Twitter Social media for business or schools

So, the world is changing as fast as I can type a blog post. About a month ago, Google rolled out Google+ and at the same time they ended their contract with Twitter.

This can mean a lot of different things for a person try to keep on top of social media or search.

For one it means no more instant updated search on google from twitter. I really miss that already. It just means that I have to go to twitter and search for something that is happening instead of being able to have google be my one stop shop.
Second, it means that Twitter no longer ranks at the top of googles influencers so you may miss out on some top search rankings if you were putting to much weight in your tweets for search results.
Third, it started an all out war between facebook and google+. I am starting to like google+ better but facebook has taken some leaps forward with security as it competes with google.
One thing I really don't like is the non-active youtube sharing between facebook and youtube. You should know that google owns Youtube and since google+ rolled out there is a lag in the ability to post video's from Youtube to facebook, how interesting.
Fourth, you better get on google+ and figure it out, new things are happening every day but keep playing with it. As of today a public profile on google plus ranks higher than anything else on a google search. Thats the biggest deal for people in SEO trying to keep high up in search results.
The fifth big thing is +1 you have seen them on google for a while now they are showing up everywhere. Soon they will detemin rank for things you search for on google. Just wait until those without +1 sink to the bottom as their peers even those who spend much less or
no money on adplus will be at the top.

On to Social media on all platforms for Business and Schools.

It's not just something you might want to try, it's something you need to use to protect your business and expand your market

Every business out there today needs to watch their online reputation. With all of the review sites out there today it is easy to get negative reviews and have them come up high on google when Customers search for your criteria. You must search on a regular basis to know what people are saying about your company. I suggest you set up google alerts to go directly to your email. You should preform Twitter and Facebook searches regularly as well.

Also know that the Internet is a vacuum anything anyone puts on the www will be there forever on cache google pages and can be found.

That being said it should not keep you from being active on the Internet. You must decided what you are willing to publish about your business. It should follow your vision and mission statement and you should draft a guideline for social media response and publication. So those who deal with the process know what they can and cannot do in a given post or response situation.

So why use social media? Well it's pretty simple people want to do business with people they know and they want to get and stay connected with people they know. Social media creates the sense that people you are "friends" with really are friends even if you have never met them in person.

This brings up social media as a way of networking with individuals and groups that you share a common interest with.
Linkedin is a great example of a social media networking site. To some it is viewed as a professionals version of facebook while it really is not Linkedin falls into it's own niche.

Currently the king of all social media site is facebook but that can change quickly if something new were to come about. Nothing in the world of the Internet is forever.

Inside facebook you can have a personal acct, a like page, a group page or now a business professional page. Each way of being active brings it's own options and application.

Many people now use twitter as well as facebook. There are a lot of uses for twitter. One is to extend the reach of an individual or group through viral marketing. An idea or message can go viral when an individual or group retweet a message posted by anyone.

Twitter is free and gets a lot of leverage on google as far as search return criteria is considered. (but not as much as before google+)

You can listen in on the conversation about you or your company and you can talk back if you want to. I say dive right in, those who want to find information about you are going to no matter what you do and those who are your friends want to know what you are doing.

Social is blurring the line between business and personal why not Just DO IT.

I am a youtube partner and love sharing what I do all the time. It has gotten me a Million views. I was a the ABCBASH 2011 a month ago and someone suggested instagram for my  iphone and  I love it, sharing is what social is all about so dive in and check it out. We only live once.

Silicon Energy and TenkSolar heat up Mn with big Rebates MN MADE with Excel Energy

Well It didn't take me long at the Mn State fair to make my way to the Eco Building. It's right next to the Art building which is my favorite.

As soon as I entered I noticed something I had not seen before. To the right I saw a solar garage that was powering solar motorcycles. I thought to myself how cool, that was before I realized the solar cells I was looking at were from Silicon Energy.

Not only are these cells made in Minnesota but they also boast an industry leading warranty and high power output. I personally think they are also very visually appealing. They can be installed on a roof, awning or as a stand alone car port. Man I want a Tesla roadster I can charge off these.
That's not really a Tesla its a gass guzzler but to my point I want a hot solar powered sports car. Another use for the  Silicon energy cells was as an entry cover, I thought this was a nifty use for a solar cell I have not seen before.

Next I saw the Tenksolar which I also thought was a neat idea. They are made so you can get a cheap solar system under $10K. They have the raised wave technology where reflectors feed solar energy back to the cell from any direction.
Both types are made in Minnesota and can come with a rebate up to 60% off from Excel through the Minnesota Made rebate, they are also eligible for a federal 30% off so you could come out with up to 90% off if you work it right. At the bottom of this blog there are some details on the program.

Of course I checked out the Mn Green roofs council booth where they had a great demo of a green roof and some educational material as well as free green roof seeds.

My daughter worked the booth with me for a couple hours and she thought the Target center having a green roof was pretty cool. Tonight we are going to the Target center to see the Lynx play she wants to see if we can see any roots growing from the under side of the roof =)

Duro-Last Cool White roofs and Solar PV

Well you need a new roof and don't know what to get. Well maybe go on the energy star webs site and look around for what will save you some money. One thing you will discover is that the government and many local power companies will pay you to put on a white roof and solar PV. Why is this you may think? Well for one a white roof will save you money on power by lowering your cooling bill in the summer and your heating bill in the winter. It does this by reflecting heat in the summer and by not melting snow pack in the winter, then the snow pack acts as extra insulation. Well then you have solar, it's free power from the sun once you have it set up. All power suppliers are mandated by the Federal government to get a higher level of renewable energy over the next 10 years. So for you this means many power suppliers will help pay for a renewable power system and power saving home upgrades, which in turn helps them.  If you generate more power than you use you will also get a check back at then end of every month. Solar power costs more than traditional power  so you get more money back for the power you generate than the power you might use on a non peak supply month. The best white roof on the market today is Duro-Last and when paired with solar PV you can really save or make some money. Remember you are also doing a great deal to help the environment in the process.

Hootsuite Friendly Skimmer Twhirl Ping.FM Twitter APPS for BUSINESS

Well I was thinking while at a meeting the other day about a new app I was using for one of the companies I work with. Recently someone in marketing told me about Hootsuite, I loved it from the second I started using it. There seem to be so many apps out there to access social media that its hard to figure out what to use, so ill give you a short review of what I use.

One of the first apps I used was Skimmer produced by Fallon. I love Fallon and in fact I ran into an employee's wife at McDonald's the other day and asked her what she did simply because she was wearing a vest that had the words "We are Fallon" across the back. She said her husband was in the print side of Fallon. They really are a neat firm and one of the first groups I met over 2 years ago at Social Media Breakfast MSP. Skimmer is a neat app esp for the people who work at Fallon. It runs on Adobe AIR and is very visually stunning.

The second App I started using was Twhirl, which I still use today daily. I love being able to open 10 twitter streams at one time on my Mac and see all that is going on. I also set up Ping.FM with my Twhirl so I can send anything I say to many social media sites at one time.
Ping is a cool site and you can use it on it's own or with  other apps like Twhirl. You can update Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, Freindster, Bebo, Blogger, Linkedin and about a million other sites with one post.

I have a Mac, Ipad, and Ipod touch 4th gen. I love all the apps on my Mac but there are some I use only on my mobile devices. For instance I love the simple Facebook app for the Ipod and Iphone I can easily take a picture and  set my location in an update with one button. I also like the same options that come with the Twitter made app for Twitter on the Ipod and Iphone.
On my Ipad I use the Twitter main app and Friendly for Facebook. I love Friendly and the user interface. It gives you the ability to download and save facebook pictures to show people on your Ipad. I also use the Yelp app and the Merchant Circle app to update work accounts from my Ipad. Recently I installed Hootsuite for Ipad and I really like it.

Currently my biggest beef with apps for social media is Linkedin. They don't seem to have a really good app.  I have the old one that was designed for Linkedin by Linkedin and let me tell you it needs some updates.
I also do a lot of video.  I love the auto upload to Youtube from the Ipod touch. I also used Ustream mobile and Justin.TV on my Ipod where there is  wifi for streaming.

There are tons of apps I use for work but those are the main ones I use for social media.   For work I use my Imac, Ipod, Ipad, a  Fujitsu tablet PC,  a  PC running windows XP and another running Vista. If you have any suggestions for me I would love to hear them. Or ask me any questions at biggabber@aim.com or tweet me @GabrielSkelly

Ely MN Duro-Last Cool White Roofs Solar and Social Media

I was reading the paper today and I saw that Germany will no longer be using nuclear power as of 2022. I think that is great. We all need to start using solar power and renewables. On a recent trip to Ely Mn I saw solar power right on main street. One of my favorite stores, Piragis has gone solar and green.
When you drive by you can't help but notice the solar cells on the roof. While shopping I also noticed they advertise in the bathroom that the hot water is provided by the sun via solar hot water. How cool and what a neat way to advertised to people who want to go green in every way possible. I also noticed that Piragis is heavy into social media, they even had QR codes in the store. Way to go, Social media has made it's way as far north as you can go. We were only 5 miles from Canada and  just a stone throw from the BWCA
There are lots of places going green in Ely. The main hospital has a Duro-Last cool white roof. With a cool white roof the owners not only save HVAC costs but reduce heat island effect. This is especially important next to natural areas such as the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Mn and Canada.

I was very impressed with Ely this year. I hope in the future to see solar and Duro-Last roofs all over Ely and then the Green will spread all over Minnesota. They are one of the area's that has been into renewables the longest. I took a hike on the

Kawishiwi dam hike and saw a hydro power plant that has been producing hydro electric power since the 1920's imagine that, free power for 90 years!!!

Cool White Roofs and Solar PV in Minnesota USA Duro-Last PVC

Well here we are its 2011 and everyone is getting scared about 2012.  Are you scared? maybe a little? one thing is for sure we can all make a difference in the environment. It has never been easier to get a Solar Power installation cheap or free and now you can get a rebate on the cool white roof you put under it to.
This year in MN you can get a credit up to $500 for installing energy star shingles on your roof, this is on top of the federal rebates already out there for cool white roofs for commercial application. Then there are the solar rebates, some applications can get as much as 60% back from the state or power company and 30% back in federal taxes. There are also lots of local grants and incentives for people and businesses to install solar.
One thing is for sure we are not going to live forever and it will soon be the year 2012. Weather or not the world burns up we will still need power until then. Why not install solar and get free power from the sun for the rest of your days and help the environment and your pocketbook in the process.

Duro-Last adding a standing seam metal and Fleece Back +Rhino Bond systems http://t.co/461QsRJ

Duro-Last adding a standing seam metal and Fleece Back +Rhino Bond systems

If you have ever seen a Duro-Last sales man come to your office and all they can offer you is the Worlds Best roof AKA Duro-Last  well this year there is a change. Now Duro-Last has come to offer standing seam metal roofs to their product line all over the USA. They also added Fleece back rolled good that are the same material as the original Duro-Last but with fleece back for faster install. If those two were not enough they also demonstrated the Rhinobond system that is now an option with the Duro-Last cool white roofing system. If you ask me Duro-Last just one upped itself and made the Worlds Best Roofing Company even better.
I love the standing seam metal in all of its colors for the look an functionality of metal as well as its environmentally friendly properties plus now you can get it all from one vendor.
The Fleece back system was new to me but I had a great time watching it be applied to a small roof and I can really see where it can work well going over non traditional or concrete decks.
The Rhinobond system now comes with the full Duro-Last warranty. This was really cool, I have been watching Rhinobond with Sarnafil for years now and it has come to Duro-Last in full force. It offers a fast and safe way for contractors to install roofs with more uniformity and more attention to details than ever before.
I am super excited to see what Duro-Last comes out with next
But I forgot one thing, now the Duro-Last PVC line comes in the color terra-cotta which is really big when trying to fit the color scheme of the surrounding area in a lot of the southern US.
