If you want to know why you need a white roof just go outside on a hot day and check out the inside of a white car or a black car the white car will be cool and the black car will melt you when you get inside it. This is how white roofs work they keep you and your building cool instead of heating up like traditional black roofs. There are differing types of white roofs you can get you can get a white TPO, EPDM or PVC. I like PVC because it can be 100% recycled and does not leach into the environment.
I am super excited for the fall and all the super cool roofs we are working on and the MN state fair. I always love to stop by the Green Roofs booth and see what they have and what people are asking about them. MN is really coming along with lots of green roofs.

It is all about the right insulation and not about the color of your water proofing. Roofs represent only a small portion of the building surface - an ideal portion to retain stormwater and to create an area as it was before the building came in.
ReplyDeleteI just came back from the shore where I got sun burned much quicker form the reflecting UV rays and light than in my back yard.
This is what happens with reflective roofs, too. They heat up all other surfaces around them (i.e wall, windows, skylights) also all dust, pollution particles in the air including microscopic water drops.
Your roofing membrane might stay cooler but you don't do anything good to the environment around it. Unfortunately you can't reflect the majority of the light back to the sun... I like my black car in winter - it is nice and cozy.
White isn’t green - but some marketing is already blinded by light.
